Villa Oxford - Taranaki
"10 Year Anniversary & Vowels Renewal"
I was approached by good friends Stace & Kristy and asked if I could shoot a small family ceremony with just the 5 of them. The renewal of their wedding vowels took place one late afternoon in summer in our gardens at Villa Oxford and then progressed down the beloved surf highway in search of some unique background. Thankfully the weather Gods were on our side and the resulting photo essay are testiment to that. Kristy was very happy to be doing the shoot and said it was a great chance for the kids to be involved and have more understanding regarding marriage and a wedding ceremony as all the kids weren’t even born when they first got married.

It brings good wishes and washes away all the couples woes. It’s also a blessing for fertility which won’t be a problem for these two love birds who already have an amazing mix of sons and daughters between them! Longtime childhood friend and close neighbour Claudine married her man of the moment Jay at the rustic Deken Farm in Oakura on Saturday the 26th of January 2019. Nerves were set aside as this family of five shared many a magic moment on a glorious Taranaki Summer afternoon. The Ceremony was set under a huge tree that shaded the couple from the heat of the day as vowels were exchanged. Definitely a breeze and enjoyment to shoot with this relaxed couple! Good times followed by food and speeches flowed through the evening and then the DJ played some old stool bangers that have everyone up shaking what their mumma gave them : )

I’ve Known the Smithers girls from Oakura for a while, and when I met their younger brother Byron (and his partner Brooke) through selling a car to them I had a funny feeling that it wouldn’t be long before these two Love Birds would be tying the knot. Sure enough less than a year later the Wedding was set for the last week of march. Well what an amazing setup at the Smithers family home! The rustic look was set off with fresh flowers and beautiful detailing everywhere which gave me great depth of field to shoot resulting in images that I was very pleased with. Brooke looked absolutely stunning and was surrounded by a great group of girlfriends and family. So to was Byron with his best mates who did a great job on getting him there on time suited and booted. Like the Wedding cake stated “the HUNT is OVER! as the Bride and Groom had found each other and were totally engrossed in this magical moment of their lives. The redwoods at Lucy’s gully were unreal, as too were the secret spots on the Smithers property. Nothing but good vibes and heart felt tales of truth were shared with these two, again a real pleasure to shoot.

As always I find shooting people I know a real pleasure. Not only do I feel way more comfortable but more so my subject feels at ease. If you haven’t had a camera waved around in your face then you might not know how weird it can be sometimes. I’ve know Michelle and her sisters for a longtime and was very happy to hear from her when she asked if I could document her and Damien’s big day. A pre met and greet with Michelle and her man Damien and longtime friend Nicky Dwyer helped reassure Damien that I was easy enough to get along with and he’d have no worries on the big day. The Wedding day arrived and the girls got themselves ready at the King and Queen hotel suites while Damien and the boys knocked back a few beers and cigars in the front yard. The weather was perfect and the backyard was a natural wonderland with guests shaded under two massive trees that had a beautiful gradual gradient of green leaves creating a magical depth of field for the couples wedding photos. Michelle looked stunning in her lace wedding dress and Damien was also looking very dapper in his blue 3 piece suit. We got some shots of family together and a big group shot that had over sized poppers going off in the background, lots of fun. The bridal couple and I then snuck down to belt road for a few quick snaps and a final super candid shot running through a flock of seagulls. It was then off to TSB Showplace for the reception and more entertainment with live music, drinks and smiles shared by all. Thanks again Michelle and Damien for letting me capture your magic day.

The Sun shined on these two for their magic day and the air was filled with nothing but LOVE . A stunning cosy venue for the ceremony right on the foreshore of New Plymouth’s coastline greeted everyone as the stunning bride Grace was walked down the isle by her Dad to a slightly nervous Bull-rider Colin who looked like he was about to embark on the ride of his life!
Cowboys a plenty that also had amazing music backgrounds - a real treat in the evening when guest felt like they were at a private concert as an eclectic mix of country and roots music had everyone moving to the beat.
Thankyou my friends for letting me capture your special day.

“Anchored by Family” Blessed to both have such supportive families Anna and Anton tied the knot with their darling infant daughter Reva bearing the rings for mum and dad. The beautiful family gardens shaded family and friends on a blue bird Taranaki day that had everyone happy and their bellies full with what can only be described as some of the the most divine wedding food i’ve personally ever tasted! With the plan to snap as quick as we could in order to return and celebrate with everybody, the reception at Mangorei Hall on Kent road had plenty of scenic backdrops that were a stones throw away which worked out perfect for the newly weds. Speeches were lit and Aidan and the band got every one up to boogie barefoot and all! Thanks again Anna and Anton for letting me capture your magic day.

I really do love my job, being able to travel and catchup with old friends to capture their coming together in the sanctimony of marriage is a win win situation. Karen and I use to flat together back in the day in Hamilton, so to get asked if I could document her and her new hubby Roddie’s Wedding day in magical Waiheke was a real blessing!
The Day had it’s ‘un-controllable forces of nature” challenges with the weather threatening to rain on their parade from the outset. Thankfully the clouds parted and the sun shone on the beautiful Mud Brick vineyard setting and friends and family were treated with breath taking views and fabulous food and banter that went on into the evening.
Meeting Roddie for the first time was nothing short of amazing - I knew then and there that Karen had made an excellent choice, his temperament and cool calm and collected manner and the way he was around her boys was proof enough of the respect and goodwill this man possessed. True love conquers all, and this wedding was nothing short of this with love and kindness shown throughout.
A definite highlight as a photographer for me was the super cool old classic Jag they hired for the wedding - it made for cool romantic images just like the vineyard would fall you into believing you were somewhere in Tuscany. Thanks again guys for the great opportunity in capturing your big day.

When I was growing up I use to go to the Library and look at books and the amazing black and white images of movie stars - (1920’s -50’s) Mikayla and Aidan reminded me of those movie stars good looks throughout the day and it was a joy to capture them both as they walked together hand in hand and tied the knot on a beautiful day at a Taranaki favourite the “Bungalow”
From the first time meeting these two in a social situation at a New Years gig via a mutual friend and to then go on and also capture their engagement journey I feel nothing but privileged and stoked to be apart of the positive vibes they both bring to the table! This also transcended to their wedding day where we had a level of comfortableness whereby the bride and groom could be themselves and interact with friends, fam and themselves that felt and as you’ll see by the images very natural. Soo blessed with a perfect day and blue seas to boot! thanks again guys for letting me be a part of and document your amazing wedding.

Darren and Kylie's Wedding Day was blessed with perfect weather - which to be honest in the month of may in the Naki can be tricky to get. My first Autumn shoot ever and wow what a venue for the ceremony, a hidden gem of a park / historic estate called Tupare' that is free for the public to enjoy.
I truly had no idea this place existed and Kylie told me to go check it out before the big day a couple weeks out, I wasn't disappointed and like Darren and Kylie fell in love with place straight away. The breath taking beauty of the estate especially with the autumn leave colours was mind blowing and the background and foreground combo's were a photographers dream! Stoked I actually mapped out certain spots prior as on the day I had a challenging 55mins to complete the couples wedding photos and hopefully you'll agree when viewing we got the magic.
Such a beautiful bride - fashionably late but with children in tow the scene was set for a fun heart felt ceremony with speeches that really confirmed the real commitment and Love that this new family was being founded on. A pleasure to shoot and see a close knit crew of friends and family who made it there (and some who watched via a live stream from a far) relish in the afternoon and evening celebrations.
Hope you guys enjoy these images - I know I def enjoyed the shoot and edit : )
